We are happy to announce that we will be providing Halifax Transit bus fare to all of the athletes competing in Nationals. We have created a credential card which you will have to show the driver to get access to the bus. One credential will be placed in each Welcome Kit - which will be handed out to all athletes.
The credential will be effective from August 29 to September 4, and will allow each athlete to have unrestricted access to all Halifax Transit buses and Ferry’s (excluding MetroLink and MetroX).
Halifax Transit has several routes that take you directly to Lake Banook. Stay tuned for more information on our Lake Banook bus routes.
Host Organizing Committee Sub-Committee Members: Marketing, Communications & Public Relations
Our Marketing, Communications & Public Relations Committee has been working very hard to prepare for Nationals. The team has been working on some truly exciting activities.
The Marketing, Communications & Public Relations Committee is pleased to announce that for the month of August, the Macdonald Bridge will proudly display flags with the Nationals logo and the dates of the event! We are looking forward to seeing the support of the Halifax Bridge team this coming month.
We want to send another big thank you to: Austin Denman, Emma Keevill, John Leahy, Kristi Strowbridge, Laura Tupper-Ring, Maggie Schiebel, Shannon Kennedy, Tracy White, Lisa Manninger, Victoria Turpin and Trish Vardy. Your hard work is very much appreciated!
Throughout his 13 year paddling career, Nick Baert, has paddled at all three clubs on Lake Banook. You can currently find him paddling with a blue singlet, as he hangs his paddle at the Senobe Canoe Club.
Nick has been fiercely competing at Nationals since the age of 12. His dedication and passion has allowed him to compete internationally. In 2013, Nick paddled with the USA Men's Team at the Junior Worlds and the Pan American Games. His team placed third. To add to his achievements, Nick paddled in the winning Junior Men's War Canoe at the 2014 Nationals in Regina.
This summer, Nick can be found spending his days on Lake Banook sharing in several activities. Not only does he steer Dragon Boats, but he is also summer staff to ADCKC. In between his practices, Nick balances being an Events Coordinator, harvesting the lake weeds and supporting the buoy boys. His hard work on and off the water are greatly appreciated.
We look forward to see where Nick's paddling takes him in the coming years. Good luck at Nationals!
The ADCKC is thrilled to work alongside of McInnes Cooper – the Official Sponsor of our Champions of Rings event. McInnes Cooper has been so helpful while planning the Champions of Rings, and has allowed us to use their gorgeous waterfront facility.
Champions of Rings is a new event which will be held in place of the Commodores Dinner. At our event, we will honour our decorated Canoe Kayak athletes returning from national and international competitions as well as past elite athletes. We will also recognize the many volunteers and Commodores that facilitate our sport. This is a complimentary cocktail reception with drinks, munchies and much more!
Without the generous help of McInnes Cooper, the Champions of Rings event would not be possible. Thank you to the great team at McInnes Cooper, we cannot wait for this exciting new event!
“We are pleased to support the Canadian Sprint Canoe Kayak Championships by hosting the Champion of Rings ceremony,” said Melanie Comstock, Nova Scotia Regional Lead Partner. “We applaud the athletes for their strength, determination and dedication to their sport."
As Nationals is fast approaching, we are reminded of the importance of our dedicated volunteers. We need 750 volunteers who can dedicate their time, talent, skill, and passion for the sport of Canoe Kayak to make Nationals a success.
See more information here, view our roles, and sign up today! On behalf of all paddlers from across Canada, we thank you for your support.
BurgeeFest is back and will feature some of your favourite National Team paddlers as hosts! But this time, there’s a twist…
All Championship paddlers are encouraged to create their own burgee with a funny, creative and team-spirited message/slogan and share it using #bestburgee. Don't forget to follow and tag @@adckc. The best burgee in Canada will win BurgeeFest sunglasses at the celebration.
Keep an eye out at the event for our life-size cut outs of some of the National Team members! You can pose as one, or get a photo with them. Don’t forget to share your photos using #BurgeeFest.
Are you worried about finding your way around Lake Banook during Nationals? Well, worry no more!
Our Venue Map will be featured regularly on our social media sites before Nationals, and will always be featured on our website.
The ADCKC is thrilled to have six summer staff join our team! The staff have been a huge help in so many areas, and have proved that many hands really do make light work. Make sure to say hi to them when you see them around the lake.
