BurgeeFest is back and will be hosted by some of your favourite National Team paddlers! Here’s a twist… leading up to the big event all Championship paddlers are encouraged to create their own burgee with a funny, creative or team-spirited message or slogan and share it to the BurgeeFest page (#bestburgee). The best Burgee in Canada will win BurgeeFest sunglasses in their club colours! Keep an eye on our website and Facebook pages as more details will be released soon.
Also, don't forget to look for our life-size cut outs of some the National Team Members. You can pose as one and get your photo with them. Share them on social media with #burgeefest.
Leighanne Porter-Salvaterra is a Dartmouth native, and passionate PaddleAll athlete. She has accomplished many great achievements throughout her paddling career. Such as, four gold and one silver medals at the Special Olympics Provincial Games in 2014. As well as two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the 2014 Special Olympic National Championships.
This all started from a chance meeting with ADCKC volunteer, Heather Corrigan 9 years ago. Heather recommended Leighanne for the PaddleAll program and she came to love the sport and people. Leighanne began paddling at Banook Canoe Club and recently joined Senobe Canoe Club on Lake Banook.
Leighanne hopes to get others involved and passionate about paddling - no matter their skill level. Her motivation comes from her godparents, and swim coaches. As well as the meditation she practices before her races.
Leighanne's friendly smile and welcoming attitude are common around Lake Banook. She volunteers with ADCKC and continues to paddle strong as she prepares for the summer's regattas.
We are excited to watch Leighanne's strength and love for paddling grow. Good luck to Leighanne on her future paddling goals.
